Phantom C980

Phantom C980 4K High-Speed Camera

The Phantom C980 is an 8 MP standalone high-speed camera built around a 4/3-inch BSI CMOS sensor for applications requiring high spatial resolution and high frame rate simultaneously. It captures 3840 × 2160 at up to 1,180 fps, reaches more than 50,000 fps at reduced resolutions, and uses a low-noise CDS architecture with read noise below 5e-. The larger sensor provides a wider field of view and higher measurement density for PIV, DIC, materials testing, life-science imaging, and precision motion analysis.

Key Technical Features:

  • 3840 × 2160 UHD resolution at up to 1,180 fps
  • 8 MP, 22 mm 4/3-inch BSI CMOS sensor with 5 µm pixels
  • CDS architecture with read noise below 5e-
  • True global shutter with minimum exposure down to 2 µs
  • Up to 51,750 fps at reduced resolution
  • 28 GB onboard RAM with up to 63 multi-cine partitions
  • Native Canon RF electronic aperture and focus control, with additional lens-mount options
  • Integrated programmable I/O, 3G-SDI, IRIG-B, Ethernet, and USB-A

The C980 prioritizes spatial information without giving up high-speed acquisition. Its 8 MP sensor provides a wider field of view and greater measurement density, particularly useful for dense PIV particle fields, DIC, structural and materials testing, biomechanics, and experiments where fine spatial features must be resolved throughout a transient event. Shutter-off frame-straddling operation further supports PIV image-pair acquisition.
